I've just sent an email to Oded because everything on your website was speaking directly to me. I live in an apartment in Jerusalem with a balcony. At the moment, it's all in the planning stage but in my dream, I want to have worms for the food waste, and pots with a small variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers.
Good to know others think along the same lines.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I have very little room and lots of people who come through my apartment (its the center of an artist collective) and vermicomposting in the space didn't seem right. It would probably work on the roof, though I have little experience with this method; I've always preferred the outdoor, palette and all style. I guess it's time to continue researching. Any starting suggestions? How many worms to buy?

I used to volunteer at the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, in the Jerusalem branch, which had its own compost education center. (though it has been quite a few years now) Perhaps that can be a resource for you (for networking or whatever) while you're in Israel.

Can't you just do indoor worm composting? It sounds less smelly, less gross (worms are way less gross than maggots and flies, to me at least) and possible to do indoors. I don't know much about it but google might be of help:
