Is it acceptable for Jews to have Muslims in a kosher slaughterhouse? Sure; there are plenty of non-Jewish workers in a variety of roles, although some roles (e.g., shochet) do of course require Jews. Is it acceptable from a Muslim's perspective? I don't see why not.

For what it's worth, I'm told that at least one slaughterhouse in the U.S. kills animals for both kosher and halal meat. Last year, a heebnvegan reader claimed that there was controversy at the Brothers Quality/Home Pride slaughterhouse in Stafford, Connecticut (which he said produces both kosher and halal meat). I can't find the full article from the Hartford Courant about the environmental controversy with this slaughterhouse, but here's the beginning of it: http://tinyurl.com/5qk8ou

Is it acceptable for Moslems to work in a kosher meat packing operation?

Did any of the Moslems who were fired in the recent dispute over giving them a different break to eat during Ramadan?

I am so pleased to read this. I've always been appalled that something can be deemed kosher when produced from exploited workers. I wish all those customers buying up kosher meat and making Rubashkin wealthy could spend a day in one of the processing plants and see at what cost the meat is produced.

[...] We’re coming at kosher from all directions now….an eco-kosher hechsher from the Conservative movement might make it harder for folks who need an Orthodox hechsher to find good eco-groovy food! Kosher is about limits on desire and has nothing to do with factory farming! We’re not sure if Aitan’s goat cheese is kosher, with a big or little K, or just plain awesome… [...]

This is fascinating! One of the main reasons I went vegetarian 14 years ago was the inhumane treatment of kosher-slaughter animals. I didn't even get as far the inhumane treatment of the workers.
