Thanks, Hannah. I can understand your frustration. I am a practicing Hare Krishna, my sister is married to an Irish Catholic and my parents eat out at a Chinese restaurant after going to Rosh Hashanah services.

Maybe they didn't know their sources?

Growing up, my siblings and I were frustrated that our immigrant parents couldn't answer our questions about their faith, Chinese Buddhism. Lo and behold, we grew up and went our separate (but amicable) ways. My brother is now an evangelical Christian, I'm an Orthodox Jew, and our sister remains an agnostic.

Deuteronomy 11:10 teaches that a person may not eat or drink before first providing for his or her animals.
