Fresh Local Produce in Northern New Jersey!

Beautiful greens from Stephens Farm

10 shares are still available at the Tuv Ha’aretz in Tenafly, NJ. Deliveries are expected to start July 1, and will be coming from Stephens Farm, an organic farm in Sussex County. A full share will cost $540, with deliveries expected to continue until mid-late fall.

I think that this CSA is especially critical because there is a real lack of CSA options here in Bergen County. Last summer, there were only two locally, and one has subsequently closed. Many of the remaining local farms have been lost to developers, and the farmers’ markets here are pretty small (and tend to only run a few months of the year). While the state has had a program to promote local produce in grocery stores (the Jersey Fresh program), it has been a victim of recent budget cuts. It is a sad day when you can’t get a Jersey tomato at a Jersey grocery store!

The Tuv Ha’aretz at the JCC on the Palisades provides a critical service not just to the Jewish community, but to the entire region. If you are looking for delicious, organic produce, then contact Steve Golden today to register for a share.
