Rosh Hashanah is one of my favorite holidays. Maybe it’s the whole back to school thing that never goes away, but for me it really is a new year. I like taking the time to think about where I’m going.

These were some good ideas. Time to pull out the apple cake recipe. I like the idea of getting a more flavorful honey. My family likes honey so I think I’ll experiment. Thanks.

    Dear Leah,

My husband and I, both religous for many generations, really enjoyed your article this Sunday in the NY times. I really think you wrote an enjoyable read doing a mitzvah which was really difficult for anyone but especially for someone who has not grown up with the rules of orthodoxy. I am very impressed. I would have sent my regrets and not gone to the wedding! I am glad that you were very specific about the fact that you were learning about being religous, since I am sure that you know that carrying a back pack is not allowed on shabbos and that of course includes that soon to be famous water bottle! Anyway, sorry if I sound critical, I really just wanted to compliment you on the writing and how I could actually see the walk happening and how you both felt.

Here, in Miami beach where we live, we have a long erev.
