Kashrut Alert: No to Tibuli spices, Yes to Dial Soap

Tibuli graffiti
The web site Kashrut.com, by kosher news maven Arlene J. Mathes-Scharf, has kept it’s Kashrut Alerts going strong for years to cover the various mislabelings — both deliberate and malicious — as well as sudden changes, hekhsher revocations, and industry news. Here you can learn not only a reputably complete list of recognized hekhshers and their certifying agencies, but that Wawa Hot & Spicy Peanuts are using an unauthorized OU hekhsher and that consumers should call the Orthodox Union to report Wawa sightings.

Such as that, while approved for year-round use, Tibuli spices aren’t Passover-friendly, but Dial soap certiainly is. And here it gets complicated: Klein’s brand Passover products aren’t labeled as such, even if they are; Listerine Pocket Mist is not certified for even year-round use, much less Pesach;  Sandy Williams brand nougat is also but only labeled on the outermost packaging, not the inner layers; while last year presented no problems, somehow Tums and Rolaids are no longer K-p friendly either. Oh, and for you Eastern European Ashkenazim, watch Bambem brand snacks for corn ingredients.

While this may be a bit overwhelming, there is one peice of good news which could save us all: quinoa seed is safe for Pesach.
