As of yet, I don't have a real recipe. You'll notice that most of the fruit in the Larabars is date. The dates are nice and sticky to glue the nuts and other fruit together. I suggest starting with about 1 part cherries, 2 parts dates and 1 part almonds. Then chop, chop, chop. It will create a goo which you can kind of fold over on itself - almost like kneading it. If you need more goo - add more dates. Finally, smoosh it out flat and cut into squares or bars. I was concerned about packaging it, but found it actually didn't stick to plastic wrap. Perhaps the almond oils are enough.

Hopefully I'll get to making a real recipe soon. I'll post here when I do.

Shev, so glad you liked the post--and what a great idea to put Larabars in your mishloach manot! I'll have to remember that for next year. And Casey, I agree that the price on Larabars is really discouraging: now $1.79 (eek) at my local health food store. Kudos to you for making your own. What's your recipe? How do you get the dried fruits and nuts to stick together?

I consider Larabars a veritable fruit and nut sausage. I have succeed in making them by repeatedly chopping dried fruit and nuts together. So much cheaper and just as tasty - really!

We received a Larabar in a Mishlo'ach Manot last year, and have become big fans, so much so that they are part of our Purim packages this year! It's part of our plot to be mekarev (outreach to) people about the yummy possibilities of Real Food.
I enjoyed this post, but especially the "Tante Toni tang"! Great writing! Thanks, and chag same'ach. And Shabbat Shalom :)
