Nina-

In answer to your question about what to do with all the food from a weekly CSA share, most CSAs here offer half and even quarter shares. Our CSA, Sauvie Island Organics, offers half shares for members, which makes membership both more feasible and more affordable. For individuals or small families, this can be a workable solution. If your local CSA doesn't offer a half or quarter share, consider finding a friend to split a share with on your own.

Of course, you can also donate your surplus to a food pantry.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Beth the "serious old-school bike geek" here...

If you want to see a bunch of photos from our ride, go to Flickr's Home Page and in the Search box at top, type in:
"tuv ha'aretz bike". You'll get a couple of dozen photos from various folks who went on the ride that day.

Also, if you're thinking of doing something like this where you live, a city/county bike route map -- or www.bikely.com online -- makes it a little easier to plot out a bike-friendly route.

Fantastic post, seems like a bike tour is an awesome way to open up the city, and it's incredible how many established gardens there are among your members. Here in NYC, I found (back when I was a Tuv Ha'Artez member on 100th street, that there was way more food than me and my girlfriend could eat in a share. I stopped going to the Farmer's market, except for milk, eggs and bread. Albeit we were only a couple of people (though I think I eat enough for more than one) and we lived in Manhattan, where the cuisine of twenty nations calls to you from every corner, but what do your CSA members do with all that food? I ask in particular because it's a critique I hear a lot about CSAs - too much at once.
