I picked up my first-ever CSA box last Friday- a few amazing tomatoes, squash, zucchini, peas, spring onions (red!), (real!) baby carrots and a ginormous head of fresh garlic- which was a revelation for us. We're down to one small onion, a handful of onion tops and a tomato... I made "CSA quiche- sauteed a bunch of veggies with garlic and tossed them into the quiche with some sharp cheddar, and had sauteeed zucchini with lots of lightly sauteed garlic over rice. Best stuff ever. Can't wait for Friday!

My wife Alexa and I are also CSA newbies, we joined the new Tuv Ha'Aretz in Forest Hills, Queens. We've been loving all the beautiful produce that's been coming from Golden Earthworm farm and have been blogging our creations on our site: sustainablepantry.com. We are so excited to be taking part in a CSA, and can now safely say that culinarily, there is nothing quite as satisfying as eating a meal made from delicious, local, organic, sustainably farmed veggies (growing them might be even more satisfying, but arable land is in short supply in Queens!). Check out Alexa root-top pie recipe, it's a tasty way to use all those wonderful beet, radish and turnip greens.
