The reason I came up with is similar to the observations you make about this time of year: for an agricultural society, this is a <a href="http://araratscrolls.blogspot.com/2007/07/full-moon-of-tammuz.html" rel="nofollow">time of abundance</a>, rather than one of contending forces of nature that might tempt our farming ancestors to bow before other gods.
