Having read this excellent older interview after I've finished (and had been entranced by) Pollan's new book, In Defense of Food, I marvel that it has "legs," a continued relevancy. I also note the validity of Pollan's discomforted response to the question about his becoming a spokesman to the food movement and his preference to be a journalist, as someone who can remain critical of possible blunders as the movement progresses. It's a wonderful and crucial trait of his and for all others involved in any meaningful growth.
