I just came across this entry and wish I had seen it earlier. I did breakfast/lunch for one year for an inner city school with at risk teens. It was humbling, frustrating as they often rejected foods that did not taste or look like processed or fast food. I had some success in introducing them to "real" food but they were always suspicious of anything that was marked organic or did not come out of a box. I want to review this book as it could be very helpful for next project.

This book sounds as though it would be a perfect birthday present for my daughter, who loves to bake but also loves to eat our finds at the Wednesday farmer's market, as well as our homegrown tomatoes and arugula.

I'm a mom of 4 teenagers, 2 who are now vegetarian, and 2 flexitarians. They grew up with a mom who looked for yellow watermelon, purple potatoes, orange tomatoes, black peppers. They were embarrassed by being different all the time, but now when their friends come for dinner they ask if we can make those cool purple potatoes and 2 of my kids like to help with the cooking now. No one however likes to help with the clean up. Isn't there a fairy tale about that?

My future teens (they are 9, 6, and 2 at the current time!) love raw veggies. So I know I've done something right. However, their overall tastes in food are limited to pasta, mac n cheese, chicken nuggets, pizza, etc. I think that they would find a cookbook written with the input of "big kids" to be an inspiration.

My nieces and nephews live on a hobby farm, but rarely cook (like, PB&J is the extent of their efforts). This would be PERFECT for them. AND perfect for me to share my love of food with them :)

My Temple Youth Group recently has a lengthy discussion about how to make our communal meals healthier. Most adults think that teens don't care about the quality of their food and the impact that food has on our collective health and environment. Those adults are wrong by far -- teens are amazing, motivated thinkers who care greatly about their world.

Hi, Lev. This is Rozanne Gold. Would love
the recipe for your chicken soup. I applaud the creative way you taught your class. For it will be
the 'teen generation' who be teaching their
families to eat better.

I have a nephew who is exceptionally unique and bright and often has trouble fitting in with teens his own age. He has always loved to cook and recently went to a cooking class for teens. He had a wonderful time there cooking with people his own age. I think it's a new and exciting outlet for him and probably other people his age. I will definitely tell him about this book... or give it to him! Great idea.
